duchess bake shop

019

I succumbed to a tremendous amount of Twitter (#yegfood) and Internet food blog pressure and finally went to Duchess Bake Shop. Well, it only opened this week, but STILL.  From the buzz surrounding this place, I just had to check it out.  And so I did.

They were all right.  This person and this one.  Oh, and this one too!  Have I missed anybody?  Oh, Liane here.  And Chowhound too.  What unprecedented press.  Word about Duchess spread like wildfire on the Internet – kudos to their marketing folks for harnessing the power of social media.

I cannot add to the raves already online. Duchess Bake Shop is quaint and French and quite delightful.  The staff are friendly, even when I butchered every single name of everything I ordered.  Oh the macarons!  Softly chewy with a gorgeous chocolate paste inside. I also happily consumed a tomato, arugula and boccacino cheese croissant.  And the Madeleine cookies were pronounced ‘fluffy’ by my sweets expert, Ella.

Run, don’t walk…

    Hi

Madelena & I went to the Duchess last week to buy some treats to take to G & J’s place. We had been waiting for weeks for it to open looking at the sign on the door every time we drove by. We went late 1 day & there was not much left so I chose an apple pie, Madalena chose shortbread & ginger cookies – so we got 4 of each. As the young lady behind the till was ringing it up she asked if this was to go…I know we could’ve sat there & ate the whole thing but come on! Anyway everything we bought was fabulous. The ginger cookies had bits of candied ginger in them & the shortbread melted in your mouth. The pie crust was flakey and filling just sweet enough. Can’t wait to go earlier in the day when there is more to choose from.

Give in to peer pressure. You will be assimilated! 😉
