epic BC road trip – eating version

polenta fries

killer fish taco

The past two weeks, we have eaten our way through the province of British Columbia.  From Vancouver to Tofino to Summerland, we ate a combination of crappy road food, beloved home cooked meals by generous relations, and incredible restaurant fine dining.

I have many tales to tell about BC eating, but the first one is of two trips to SoBo, in Tofino.  I love this place, and was directed to it by Dinner with Julie blog.  She frequents Tofino, and she’s in the know about where to eat there.

SoBo is pretty much perfect.  Bright sunny setting, kid-friendly service, and delicious, local food.   I loved it there so much that I ate there twice.  Once with the kids for the pictured polenta fries and fish taco extravaganza and next for a lovely lunch with my mom, where I had wild fish chowder and corn bread.

You know you are on the west coast when salmon appears on the kids’ menu.  I pine for a place like SoBo in Edmonton.  It is like Red Ox Inn goes casual and kid-friendly.  A girl can dream, can’t she?

At SoBo in Tofino. They came in orders of either 3 or six because they were so HUGE and perfectly deep fried – crusty on the outside, soft inside…served with a spicy mayo based dip.

Oooh – so glad you went! and you had the polenta fries! Sigh – those remind me of their purple catering truck days…

Looks great! Summer pictures are always nicer thanks to the beautiful sunlight 🙂
