tesoro caffe

June 25, 2009

I forget about this place sometimes because it is tucked away off 104th street – west of Grant MacEwan, in a myriad of strip malls.

We went to Tesoro for lunch today.  I had a salami panini with roasted eggplant and red peppers and mozza cheese.  My love had a Calabrese pizza.  This place is as authentic Italian as it gets in Edmonton.  Proper cappuccinos, fresh ingredients, exact preparation.   Friendly but no nonsense service. They have new table service – previously you had to order at the counter and watch for your food.  All in all, an excellent alternative to a downtown-ish lunch.

Grazie, Tesoro.

Wow, Sue, you almost convince me to give it another try. I would have characterized the service there as ‘indifferent verging on hostile’. But that panini looks worth a try…

Ha, Tara. I’d agree that the service is indeed indifferent. In that way it reminded me of Italy, where we had trouble getting service because: a. we spoke terrible Italian and b. we were much too timid.

So when Tesoro says they are authentic Italian, they aren’t kidding! Lucky that also translates into the food.
