a keg like dinner

steakdinnerLast night we pretended we were at the Keg.  We had barbecued sirloin steak and accoutrements, which included baby potatoes, broccoli with soya sauce, vinegar, ginger, garlic, butter mushrooms and creamed spinach.  

This was a good ole old-fashioned meal.  Steak houses are still very popular here in Edmonton – there’s often a huge wait at the Keg to be seated.  

But it is actually dead easy to do Keg in your own home.  It is mostly about the steak.  The sides are secondary, although they are my secret favourite.  

Creamed Spinach

1 bag of spinach leaves
1/2 cup half and half cream
salt, pepper, nutmeg
2 cloves garlic, minced

First boil water in a saucepan.  Add spinach and cook for two minutes.  Take spinach out, put in strainer and squeeze all the green water out of them.

In a frypan, bring the cream, garlic and spices to a slow boil.  Add the drained spinach, and mix to combine.  Drain slightly and serve piping hot.

    I almost never order steak out anymore when you can make it a million times better and cheaper at home. Thanks for the spinach recipe!

    I also find it hard to order a steak when you can have it anyway you like, for less, at home.

    I never realized creamed spinach was that easy. I’ll have to try it.
