alberta’s version of waddy’s

June 29, 2008

This is the remnants of the grossest breakfast we have ever eaten.   This happened earlier today, in Cold Lake, Alberta.

We were up visiting friends who were camping at the Provincial park.  We stayed at a hotel, and ate at the neighbouring restaurant ($2 off coupon from the hotel!  We can never pass up a deal!).

This meal rivaled our worst meal overall, ever, which happened at Waddy’s in Vernon, BC.   Because my husband’s name starts with Wadd, when he saw the name of Waddy’s on a restaurant on the highway three years ago, he had to come to a screaming halt and drag us into Waddy’s for dinner.

Then he decided he wanted a turkey dinner.  (What was this man thinking?  This was in the middle of July).  He ordered, and ate, congealed bright yellow gravy, boiled dry turkey and canned vegetables.  It went down as the worst meal ever eaten.

But our Cold Lake restaurant clocks in as the worst breakfast ever eaten.   Burnt toast, hard yolk poached eggs, half burned, half raw sausages, burned dry hashbrowns, and to top it off – the pre-packaged jams were all dry and gummy inside.

Yuck.  Yuck.  Yuck.  We ran back to our hotel room to brush our teeth of the leftover grease film in our mouth.  This is why one eats Tim Horton’s breakfast sandwiches in small town Alberta.  Lesson learned.  And when in BC, if you see Waddy’s on the side of the highway, do yourself and your stomach a favour…and keep driving.

I should point out that the Waddy’s ‘meal’ was also cold… it had obviously been prepared earlier in the day (week? month?) and warmed up for consumption… tres gross…
