flirt cupcakes, all askew

June 18, 2009

Ella and I stopped by Flirt Cupcakes yesterday.  I know I’m months behind this trend, as my food blog colleagues have already posted about Flirt here, here, here and here.

I’ve eaten a Flirt Cupcake before, and have to say that they are very very good.  In fact, the best I’ve had in Edmonton.  The recipe is for a dense cake that’s not too heavy and a sweet icing that’s not too cloying.  They taste best cool, and the mini-ones can be consumed in a quick bite.  Yum.

The store itself is tiny, but staffed with friendly folks.  The cupcakes are lovingly displayed behind glass, and there are gorgeous Eden Lily flower arrangements to complement the cupcakes.  I like the way they collaborate with other local businesses.  That’s cool.

One warning – they do sell out of cupcakes, so going earlier in the day is best.

Another warning – do not drive like a maniac down the Whitemud in the hot heat to pick up a lawnmower with the cupcakes in the back.  They will sadly look like this:

askew

Despite this cupcake disaster, they tasted delicious.  All the best to Flirt.  Keep up the good work.

We slid the icing back on and they still tasted good! But they were much lovelier beforehand…

Oh that picture made my heart drop for you. The only thing I could think is that cupcakes are delicious no matter how they look and plus it could be a new flavor – chefs special. <–like a pizza place that tops a pie with every topping.

Haha, what a great photo. Smooshed or not, they are indeed delicious. Now I am craving one big time.

I think you need to revise “the mini-ones can be consumed in a quick bite. Yum.” to the mini-ones can be consumed in a quick bite. DANGER!”
