city market is open!
This morning Ella and I wandered to the opening of the City Market. They’ve closed off 101 Avenue entirely, so you can browse the market without being worried about being hit by a car. This makes things more pleasant.
I like City Market because it is open air and it doesn’t make me feel all penned in because of the crowds. Here’s what we saw:

an apartment cat

jam lady's pickled carrots

some wee bison

a whimsical cupcake

some pretty flowers

buckets of herbs
There were oddly no breakfast take-away places (a place selling freshly baked muffins and coffee would make a killing there), so we went to Blue Plate instead.

blue plate diner

pancakes and eggs

grilled maple cornbread
Then Ella showed me her new soccer team formation. She wrote it on a napkin, like so:

top secret soccer strategy
This was a most pleasant way to pass a Saturday morning.
yes. i was trying to explain to mom how my team plays soccer. she kept saying yup, ok , oooo, but i really dont think she had any idea what i was talking about.
the market was pleasant, and i got pickled carrots (in our house anything pickled=good), so it was great!
Queen of Tarts wasn’t there? They usually have some sort of quiche or savory croissants/tarts.
Nope, I looked for the Queen of Tarts…did not spot her…but perhaps I missed their booth?
I went to the market too, picked up a bunch of things. It seemed like most of Edmonton was there! It was busy but it was a perfect weather day for the market.
I was away last weekend so I can’t wait to go to the outdoor market this weekend! It is about 4 blocks from our apartment, so much more convenient than Old Strathcona. Although we have gotten to know so many vendors there that I will probably miss them!
Queen of Tarts has been at Old Strathcona for a few months, so maybe they’ve decided to stay there for now…or alternate weeks at both? I agree I was surprised when we moved here that there weren’t very many breakfast take-away places at either market compared to back home (Charlottetown). Last fall there was a breakfast burrito place right near Jasper.
